Kale Chips have been a favorite for years. My problem was cooking them in the oven. I would have to toss them a few times during the 45 mins that they were baking and then half of the time when preparing, I would burn the chips. Now I have a Avalon Bay Air Fryer ™. This has made making kale chips fast and easy.
Start by washing your kale. I clean all my Veggies in a tub of water with a cup of white distilled vinegar, letting them soak for about 20 minutes. Drain the tub then refill with clean rinse water. Let the veggies sit for an additional 5 minutes then drain off the water. Lay your Kale / Veggies on a clean town on the counter and allow to air dry.
Next Hold the Curly Kale by the stem and pull the leafy area away with your other hand. Tear those pieces in to large bite size pieces and add to a large bowl.
You can season with any oil or seasoning you like. This is a recipe for a Spicy mix that makes about 4 cups of Curly Kale:
1 Tbs of Hot Chili oil
1 Tsp. Curry powder
1 1/2 Tbs Nutritional Yeast
1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
Dash of Salt and Pepper to taste
Toss everything together in the large bowl with your Kale pieces.
Set your Air Fryer to 180° and add half of the seasoned kale to the basket. Cook for approximately 6 to 8 minutes, or until crunchy. If it is not crunchy enough add a few more minutes to the timer. When they are crunchy as desired removed from the air fryer and add the reminder of the uncooked kale to the air fryer basket and repete.
If you are watching your calories or just staying away from oils completely you can leave out the oil in the above recipe . Just leave the kale damp after rinsing, and add the dry seasoning. I have done this several times and it works out great.
Kale Chips will keep for 2 to 3 days before they begin to loose their crunch. However they usually don’t sit around that long…
Enjoy your healthy great tasting snack.
